Polman Astra become the Expert Team for Vocational High School and Job Training Center Revitalization Pilot Project, initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Economic Affairs

On April 8-9 2019, at the Harris Hotel Semarang, the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia collaborated with the Regional Governments of 9 Provinces in Indonesia organized a Pilot Project Workshop on Revitalization of Vocational High School and Job Training Center. Four competencies were discussed in the workshop, and that is Machinery, Industrial Electronic, Mechatronic and Ship Welding. Polman Astra was appointed as an Expert Team in machinery competence, because Polman Astra considered to have the experiences in the industrial world, also to provide an overview and advise on collaboration between educational institutions and industry, from curriculum preparation, teaching factory to the amount of labor that works on the industry.

This workshop was held as a follow up of the order from President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo on development of the vocational world, and hopefully, through this workshop the development of vocational world can be accelerated. There are 9 provinces appointed as pilot project, and that is North Sumatra, Riau Islands, Lampung, West Java, East Java, Bali, East Kalimantan and South Sulawesi. About 75 people from Vocational High School, Job Training Center, and related provincial offices attended the workshop. The event was opened by the Deputy for Coordination of Creative Economy, Entrepreneurship, and the Competitiveness of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises. The Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Manpower, National Education Standards Board, National Professional Certification Board, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Local Governments, related industries and Academics at secondary and higher education levels also present the opening ceremony.

Yohanes Tri Joko as a representative of Polman Astra, was present as one of the speakers at the workshop. He speak in front of the participants from various regions and discussed la lot, especially about Machinery competence. “Polman Astra is honored to be part of this pilot project program, particularly in the distribution of vocational development throughout Indonesia. Considering the unemployment rate, especially from vocational schools, is quite high, ”explained Yohanes. “At the time like this, we are able to meet practitioners from Vocational High School and Job Training Center from various regions, and organize panel discussions, compiling the curriculum and ToT modules together with participants, hoping that they could arrange program that match with what industry need”.
